Amazon’s number one best-selling smart speaker is on sale for the first time in 2017. From now through May 13, you can grab the Echo for just $149.99. It’s a perfect gift for Mother’s Day – it can create shopping lists, set alarms, play music, order a Uber or pizza, tell jokes and a lot more. It comes in black or white, and rarely goes on sale. While Apple’s Phil Schiller might not like the Echo, we think it’s one of the best tech items you can get.
Going beyond the abilities listed above, one of the more advanced features of the Echo is its ability to control smart home devices. It’s compatible with products from WeMo, Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, Nest, ecobee and just about every other smart home device on the market. While Google has a competitor in the Home which costs less at $129, Amazon’s Echo has a better track record of not monetizing your home with advertisements. Amazon’s smart speaker lineup is more diverse too – you can get the smallest smart speaker, the Dot for just $49. There’s also the Tap which is Amazon’s portable version of the Echo and costs $129.
