Useless Tech Episode 1: The Phone Bed

This is a new series where I will be highlighting useless tech that I stumble upon. I run into these items all the time whether it be surfing the web or in the corner of a Marshalls. I figured why not document all the useless stuff I come across since it happens so frequently. Let’s start this series off with a bang! I introduce you to “The Phone Bed”.

The Phone Bed Charging Station is literally a mini bed for your phone. I’ll admit, I thought this was a joke when I first came across it on Twitter. I Googled it and found out that it’s made by a company called Thrive Global. The whole purpose of this accessory is to spend less time on your phone at night by physically tucking it away into this mini bed. I agree with the core concept because I fall victim to sleep deprivation due to my addiction to Reddit. However, I do not agree with the $100 price tag. I bought a bed for $70 in college. This was for a human and not for a phone.

The only functionality the Phone Bed has is a 10-port, 60W charger. This is great and all but a quick Google search found 10-port chargers for around $30. This means that you are paying an extra $70 dollars so that your phone can physically be tucked into a miniature bed. My phone already lives the good life and sleeps on my bed every night anyways.

Ariana Huffington, the founder of Thrive Global, quotes “when we prioritize our well-being, our decision-making, our creativity, our productivity and our performance dramatically improve across the board”. In my opinion, buying a $100 phone bed seems pretty detrimental to my well-being.
